Rally in Bristol Calls for End to Arming Israel

IQNA – A demonstration was held in Bristol, the UK, on Saturday in which the participants voiced support for the oppressed people of Gaza and call for an end to the Israeli war on the enclave.

Hundreds of pro-Palestine supporters marched through Bristol in the sixth rally in the city since the Israel war on the Gaza Strip began in October last year.

People gathered at Shahjalal Jame Mosque in Eastville before marching to Castle Park, where more speeches were held.

Some members of the public shouted out their windows words of support.

A number of Acorn protesters attended the march, as well as members of the National Education Union and Bristol Socialist Party.

Cyclists from the Big Ride for Palestine also joined the march in numbers, with the Palestinian flag attached to many of their bikes. The charity cycles to fundraise for children in Gaza and Palestinian cyclists.

Ex-Labour councillor Zoe Goodman and Green Party councillor Mohamed Makawi attended the march.

At a speech before the march began, a member of Shahjalal Jame mosque said “Muslims are afraid to speak out” in fear they will be arrested.

“Israel is smashing up toy stores, they are smashing up cemeteries, they are blowing up mosques, and no one is covering it.”

On Thursday, around 60 protesters gathered outside Elbit arms factory in Aztec West on the outskirts of Bristol and attempted to shut it down. Four protesters were arrested.

The firm, which makes drones and other military equipment, has contracts with the Israeli regime’s military.

A new mural at the People’s Republic of Stokes Croft features two children crying, and the words “End the siege. Declare a ceasefire. Stop arming Israel.”
