MEDINA (IQNA) – More than four million pilgrims have visited the Prophet’s Mosque in Medina in a week, Saudi authorities say.

According to the Agency of the General Presidency of the Prophet’s Mosque, 4,252,000 people visited and prayed at the Prophet’s Mosque in the holy city of Medina between June 25 and July 02, 2023.

This was the period of 7th to 14th Dhu Al Hijjah in the year 1444 AH when many Hajj pilgrims traveled to Medina after completing their sacred rites in Mecca.

The presidency said it coordinated with various authorities in charge of security, health, service, and volunteering to make sure that the guests and worshipers had a smooth and comfortable experience while performing their religious obligations.

Among the services provided by the Presidency of the Prophet’s Mosque was the distribution of 203,294 bottles of Zamzam water, which is considered holy and blessed by Muslims.

The Prophet’s Mosque, also known as Masjid An Nabawi, is a place of sanctity and reverence for Muslims. It is the second most sacred mosque in Islam, after Masjid al-Haram in Mecca, and it attracts millions of devout visitors every year. The mosque was established by Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) himself when he migrated to Medina in 622 AD. It is the second-largest mosque in the world, and it has undergone several expansions over the centuries to accommodate the increasing number of worshippers.

The mosque is also where Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) is buried, under a green dome that distinguishes itself from the white marble minarets.
