TEHRAN (IQNA) – What the end of the world will look like is a question everyone asks. The answer can be seen in different parts of the Quran.

Surah Al-Inshiqaq

According to Surah Al-Inshiqaq, for instance, the sky is torn apart and the earth is stretched out.

Al-Inshiqaq is the 84th chapter of the Quran that has 25 verses and is in the 30th Juz. It is Makki and the 83rd Surah revealed to the Holy Prophet (PBUH).

The name of the Surah comes from the word Inshiqaq, which means being torn apart, mentioned in the first verse.

The chapter talks about the signs of the Resurrection Day and the end of the world.

It says that on that day, people will be divided into two groups: Those whose Book of records will be given in their right hand and will have an easy reckoning. And those whose Book of records will be behind their backs. They will be thrown to scorching fire.

Like other Makki Surahs, the main focus of Surah Al-Inshiqaq is about the resurrection and the events related to it.

It points to the sky being torn apart and then talks about the two groups of As’hab Yamin (those whose Book of records will be given in their right hand) and As’hab Shimal (those whose Book of records will be behind their backs).

According to Al-Mizan Exegesis of the Quran, the coming of the Day of Judgment, man’s striving hard to get closer to the Lord, and his reckoning based on his deed in this world are among the main topics discussed in the Surah.

The chapter addresses people and warns those who are negligent that a certain ending awaits them. It reminds them of what will happen if they take the right path or the wrong path.

It says that on that day, those who have not thought about the Day of Resurrection will want to die a thousand times, but will have no way but to suffer the fire of hell.

In the second part of the Surah, one’s attention is drawn to the end of the world by picturing Shafaq (twilight), which indicates the end of the day. It also compares the path of mankind to that of the day and night and the changes of the moon in a month and reminds people that they like the sun and the moon, are under the command of God.
