US, UK Obstructing Attempts to Establish Peace in Yemen: Official
President of the Supreme Political Council in Yemen Mahdi Al-Mashat discussed with the UN envoy, Hans Grundberg, the latest developments related to establishing peace, ending the aggression, and lifting the ongoing siege on Yemen.
Al-Mashat told the UN envoy, "Facts have proven that the United States of America and Britain are the sides obstructing all attempts to achieve peace in Yemen.
"Whenever there is any rapprochement between Yemen and Saudi Arabia and understandings are reached, the United States of America rushes to send its ill-omened envoy to the region,” he added.
The top Yemeni official explained that the role of the United States in the aggression, the blockade, and the withholding of salaries, all the way to thwarting peace efforts, is clear proof that it is the side behind the Yemenis’ suffering.
"We are ready for peace as much as we are ready for war, and let the aggression choose the path it wants. We have a legitimate right to defend our country and our freedom,” he stressed.
Al-Mashat further said, "The humanitarian initiative to release the captive Rajab confirms that we, as Yemenis, are more than capable of reconstructing our situation once external interference is put to a halt.”
The head of the Yemeni Supreme Political Council also warned against America and Britain's efforts to push for escalation, stressing that the whole world, including America and Britain, will be affected.
Al-Mashat also said, "We will not allow for Yemen to enter into a new escalation and for America and Britain to get out peacefully."
A few days ago, a member of Ansar Allah Political Bureau expressed optimism about the progress and success of the efforts made by the Sultanate of Oman "to achieve just peace and good neighborliness" between Yemen and Saudi Arabia.
In an interview for Al Mayadeen, Ali Al-Qahoum said, "We sensed seriousness, the atmosphere was positive, and progress is noticeable in the course of achieving sustainable peace that meets the aspirations and sacrifices of the Yemeni people and preserves their sovereignty, unity, and independence."
Al-Qahoum stressed that "the priority is for humanitarian issues, ending the aggression, lifting the siege, and ensuring the exit of all foreign forces from Yemen, as well as reconstruction and reparations," noting that "the agreement on humanitarian files will prepare the ground for inter-Yemeni dialogue under international auspices without guardianship or external interference in a way that preserves the rights of the Yemeni nation."
