Quranic Circles, Mourning Ceremonies in Iraq Mark Martyrdom Anniversary of Imam Kadhim

TEHRAN (IQNA) –Quranic circles and mourning ceremonies were held in different cities in Iraq on Wednesday on the eve of the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Musa Kadhim (AS), the 7th Shia Imam.

Some of the programs were organized by the Quranic Center of Najaf, affiliated to the Holy Quran Scholarly Assembly of the Astan (custodianship) of Hazrat Abbas (AS) holy shrine, al-Kafeel website reported.

Sayyed Dhulfaqar al-Sa’abari, a qari with the center, said a number of the Quranic programs and mourning rituals were held on the path of pilgrims marching to Kadhimiya, where the holy shrine of Imam Kadhim (AS) is located.

He said a number of qaris from the center recited verses from the Holy Quran at the programs, which was attended by different groups of people.

They also included speeches by senior clerics about the Seerah and virtues of the seventh Imam (AS) and his role in serving the Hoy Quran, he added.

Today is the 25th day of the lunar Hijri month of Rajab, which marks the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Kadhim (AS).

The Imam (AS) was poisoned and martyred on Rajab 25, 183 (September 5, 799 AD) in a prison in Baghdad.
