TEHRAN (IQNA) – Algeria's Football Federation has condemned a recent racist attack against an Algerian Muslim footballer in France.

French fans have reportedly waged racist verbal attacks against Mohamed Youcef Belaïli, Brest's winger, in a match against Reims on Sunday, according to TRT Arabic.

Condemning the attacks, the federation expressed its full support for Belaïli.

This barbaric behavior is in contrast with the spirit of fair play, noted the federation.

The match ended with a 1-1 draw and verbal attacks emerged after Belaïli missed a penalty in the 53rd minute. "This is France, return to your country" was reportedly one of the racist chants.

In a statement after the match, Brest announced that an investigation into the claims will be opened with the collaboration of Reims.
