In a statement released on Sunday, following the signing of a peace deal between the Taliban and the US, the Foreign Ministry said the Islamic Republic of Iran believes that sustainable peace in Afghanistan can be achieved only through intra-Afghan dialogue with the participation of all groups, including the Taliban.
It added that Tehran welcomes any development that helps peace and stability in the neighboring country.
The Islamic Republic of Iran believes that the presence of foreign forces in Afghanistan is illegal and the main reason behind war and insecurity in the country, it said.
The statement also said the US has no legal standing to sign a peace deal or make a decision about the future of Afghanistan.
The United States signed a deal with the Taliban on Saturday that some say could pave the way toward a full withdrawal of foreign soldiers from Afghanistan over the next 14 months.
