17 Manuscripts Gifted to University in Sharjah

TEHRAN (IQNA) – Sultan bin Muhammad Al-Qasimi, a member of the Supreme Council and the ruler of Sharjah, gifted 17 pictorial manuscripts to the Center of Islamic Manuscripts of Al-Qasimia University in Sharjah, the United Arab Emirates.

 

According to una-oic.org, the manuscripts are some of the most precious and rare documents preserved at Lisbon Academy of Sciences GCSE which is Portugal's national academy.

Many of them were written in Arabic and some are in Portuguese.

The works include “Al-Muwatta” by Malik ibn Anas written in the 14th century, The Travels of Ibn Battuta and “Al-Mu’jam Al-‘Arabi” by Julius Jacobus, a Dutch orientalist, which is an Arabic-Latin dictionary.

Al-Hawi by Muhammad ibn Zakariya Razi, a great encyclopedia of medicine in the 15th century, Bada Khalq Al-Dunya by Muhammad ibn Abdullah Al-Kasayi and a collection of works in medicine, and philosophy dating back to the 3rd and 4th centuries are among the gifted manuscripts.
