TEHRAN (IQNA) – The 11th edition of a Quran competition for women concluded in Libya earlier this week.

Women Quran Contest Wraps Up in Libya

The competition was held in the categories of memorization and Tajweed recitation of the Quran, Bawaba Africa website reported.

20 women from different parts of the country competed in the Quranic event, which was organized by the Office of Quran and Sunnah Affairs, affiliated to the North African country’s Awqaf Ministry.

The top five winners of the contest received cash awards of 60,000 to 10,000 Libyan dinars at the closing ceremony.

All of the participants had come first in a preliminary competition held at the regional level.

The competition is annually held with the aim of encouraging Libyan women to memorize the Quran.

There have been armed conflicts in parts of Libya since former dictator Muammar Gaddafi was toppled and later killed in October 2011.

However, this has not stopped the Muslim people of the North African country from organizing Quranic activities and programs.
