Mosque in Bahrain Reopens to Worshipers after 6 Years
Hundreds of Shia Muslims in the village attended Friday prayers at the mosque yesterday, Al-Ahed News reported.
The prayers were led by Allameh Sheikh Ali al-Sadadi.
There were so many worshipers that many of them had to say the prayers outside of the mosque in the street.
Bahrain’s top Shia cleric Sheikh Isa Qassim used to lead prayers at the mosque.
The Manama regime closed it to worshipers six years ago at the peak of the Bahraini uprising.
The people of Diraz have always opposed and condemned the move, saying Friday prayer is a religious duty and no one has the right to ban it or decide who can attend the prayer or lead it.
Bahrain, a close ally of the United States in the Persian Gulf region, has seen a wave of anti-regime protests since mid-February 2011. Scores of people have been killed and hundreds of others wounded or detained in Manama’s ongoing crackdown.
