TEHRAN (IQNA) – An Egyptian artist says he has created the longest handwritten copy of the noble Quran, seeking to register it as a Guinness World Records.

Saad Hashish made the remarks while meeting with Professor Mahmoud Ahmed Zaki Mohamed, President of Tanta University, on Monday, according to Elbyan.

Hashish said that he was born in one of the villages of Gharbia Governorate. “I was illiterate but I am proud that for that I managed to learn how to read and write on my own.”

After acquiring literacy, the idea of creating a special copy of the Quran came to his mind.

It took three years to write down the longest copy of the Quran with the length of 1100 meters, he said, adding that he wishes to enter the Guinness World Records for this.

The artist says the longest handwritten copy of the Quran before his work, is a 700-meter-long Quran.

He noted that Guinness World Records has not yet opened an entry for this field.

Saad asked Zaki Mohamed to help him register his work globally.

For his part, the official appreciated the efforts of Hashish for creating the distinguished work, promising to discuss ways to register it in the Guinness.

He also said the university will honor the artist in the near future.
