Eid Al-Ghadir Celebrated in India

TEHRAN (IQNA) – Shia Muslims in India held ceremonies titled “Ali (AS) Day” on Eid Al-Ghadir in different parts of the country.

 

Cultural centers, holy shrines and Shia mosques in Lucknow and Uttar Pradesh as well as other parts of India hosted the ceremonies organized by Ahl-ul-Bayt (AS) devotees on the auspicious occasion.

The ceremonies in Kargil, Jammu and Kashmir and Delhi were held on August 19 and 20. They included poetry reading sessions in praise of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) and Imam Ali (AS) and speeches on the importance of the Ghadir event.

The Iranian Cultural Center in India also organized a ceremony for Iranians residing in Delhi.

The event of Ghadir, or Eid al-Ghadir, is celebrated by Shia Muslims around the world every year. It is among important feasts and happy holidays of Shia Muslims held on the 18th day of Dhul Hijja in the lunar Hijri calendar.

It was the day when according to reports, the Holy Prophet (PBUH) appointed Ali ibn Abi Talib (AS) as his caliph and the Imam after himself following an order from God.
