Entitled "Mostafa, from Stockholm to Karbala”, the film is about Mostafa, a Muslim athlete from Sweden, who takes part in the annual Arbaeen march in Iraq carrying his country’s flag.

He meets talks with a lot of pilgrims from various countries during the march.

Directed by Seyed Ali Sajjadi, the documentary was among the selected works at the Arbaeen International Award in 2016.

Sajjadi was present at the screening in Paris and answered questions on the film afterwards.

Arbaeen, which is the largest religious gathering in the world, falls on Thursday, November 9, this year.

It comes 40 days after Ashura, the martyrdom anniversary of the third Shia Imam, Imam Hussein (AS).

Each year, a huge crowd of Shias flock to Karbala, where the holy shrine of Imam Hussein (AS) is located, to perform mourning rites. Many of them also visit Imam Ali’s (AS) holy shrine in Najaf.

In the past few years, around 20 million pilgrims from all over the world, including Iran, took part in the mourning ceremonies in the Iraqi holy cities marking Arbaeen.
